Internet media from China and Russia soon will continue their communication at the China-Russia Forum: New Media · Youth Collaboration, starting on Sept 24 in Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

The event is a continuation of last year's forum in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

"The forum of internet media enabled China and Russia to find new common interests and strengthen the China-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination," said Xu Yonghong, head of the Publicity Department and member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Committee.

"New media in China and Russia are playing a more important role in bilateral information cooperation," said Alexander Prosvirkin, Russia's consul general in Guangzhou.

Government officials, representatives from mainstream media and internet companies, and scholars will participate in the four-day forum.

Alexey Volin, deputy minister of telecom and mass communications, will lead the Russian delegation. Among those expected to attend are executives from Yandex, Russia's biggest search engine; Rambler & Co, the country's leading web portal; and internet company Mail.Ru Group.

Participants will share views on topics such as new forms and opportunities of internet media and internet information security.

They will also discuss over-the-top content services delivered by high-speed internet connection, as well as discussing mobile platforms, new media entertainment content, news distribution, and youth and new media. "Over-the-top" means any app or service that provides a product over the internet, bypassing traditional distribution, according to Techopedia.

A highlight will be the IPDC talks, a high-level speech series launched by UNESCO's International Programme for the Development of Communication.

There also will be exhibition games among top Chinese and Russian FIFA and DOTA esports players. DOTA is the online game Defense of the Ancients.

The forum is organized by Don State Technical University and chinadaily.com.cn. It is a key project of the 2016-2017 China-Russia Media Exchange Year.

The exchange "provides fine opportunities for bilateral practical cooperation," said Yu Qingchu, editor-in-chief of People's Daily Online.
