Trade experts said that the United States' "fight and talk" trade policies with China will continue in the long run and China has every reason to take countermeasures in line with the country's foreign trade law.

Based on US trade policies in the past three months, it is obvious that the country still stand by trade protectionism that safeguards its own interests, and the US has totally neglected other countries' interests, commented Dong Yan, director of the International Trade Office at the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

She said these measures have proved the long-term intractability of trade protectionism adopted by the US government.

"Even though we saw some talks on equal footing, they can only reflect the balance of interests within the US. The US policies are outdated and are also setbacks to global free trade," said Dong.

Tu Xinquan, director of the China Institute for WTO Studies at the University of International Business and Economics, suggested that all countries in the world should strongly oppose such unilateral trade protectionism measures.

"For the Chinese government, the stance has always been clear and the country has every reason to take equal and corresponding countermeasures," he said.

China's foreign trade law grants such power to the government to take corresponding countermeasures to ensure the country's due interests, according to Tu.

According to Article Seven of the country's Foreign Trade Law, in the event that any country or region applies discriminatory prohibition, restriction or other measures against Chinese trade, the country may, as the case may be, take countermeasures against the particular country or region in response.
