The 5th World Internet Conference (WIC) will be held in November or December, 2018 in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province, China. In order to showcase the latest world Internet scientific and technological achievements, expand the influence of Internet as an innovation driver, demonstrate creative contributions of Internet practitioners, and build an all-round exchange platform for innovations, the Release Ceremony for World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements (hereinafter referred to as the Release Ceremony) will be held during the Conference. We are now issuing an invitation to businesses, colleges and universities, research institutions and individuals to solicit world leading Internet scientific and technological achievements for the Release Ceremony.

I. Profile

1. Basic information

Time: In the afternoon of the first day of the 5th WIC

Location: Wuzhen Conference Hall, Wuzhen International Internet Exhibition & Convention Center, Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China

Activity: To release annual World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements (including fields that are closely related to the Internet, ditto)

Number of Achievements to be Released: approximately 15

Participants: Government officials, guests, achievement owners, invited press, etc.

2. Arrangements

(1) What to release

World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements, such as basic theories, technologies, products, business models and cross-category achievements.

(2) How to release

The top 100 or so shortlisted achievements will be demonstrated to the participants in the form of conference manual etc.; owners of World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements which finally confirmed by the Recommendation Committee for World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements of the 5th WIC will be invited to the Release Ceremony to introduce their achievements. Each owner will have 5-6 minutes to showcase achievement by video or other means (such as VR, AR, 3D holographic laser projection, etc.), and also will be awarded the "Memorial Prize for World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements".

The Release Ceremony will go real-time live globally. Achievements will be showcased at the "Light of Internet" Expo of the 5th World Internet Conference.

(3) How to get there

The achievements will be selected on the principle of fairness, justice, objectivity and authority through collection and recommendation.

① Achievement owners will submit application materials online to the Secretariat of the Recommendation Committee for World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements of the 5th World Internet Conference.

② After a preliminary screening, owners of the shortlisted achievements will be requested to submit supplementary materials (such as video, models, etc.) to further showcase the achievements in a visualized and dynamic way.

③ The Recommendation Committee will put forward a tentative list of achievements and submit it to the Organizing Committee of the WIC for review and approval.

④ The shortlisted World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements will be announced at the Release Ceremony.

II. Scope of Collection

Internet achievements developed from August 21, 2017 to the date of the 2018 Release Ceremony (including achievements planned to release before or at the Release Ceremony) are eligible to submit an application, including basic theoretical achievements recognized by authoritative organizations, cutting-edge technology and mind-blowing innovation achievements, the most advanced and most influential product achievements, the most innovative business models, and cross-category achievements.

1. "Basic theoretical achievement" refers to key scientific discoveries and theoretical breakthroughs in the basic Internet research;

2. "Technology achievement" refers to advanced processes, tools, equipment, facilities, standards, specifications, indicators, and measurement methods applied in Internet;

3. "Product achievement" refers to commercial goods that are generated in the field of Internet and sold for revenues. They may be tangible or intangible carriers catering for Internet users' needs;

4. "Business model achievement" refers to business plans, strategies, procedures, organization structure and implementation mode in all links of the whole process, including resource development, R&D mode, manufacturing mode, marketing system and market circulation.

5. "Cross-category achievement" refers to one that falls under two or more of the aforementioned categories constructive to the booming prosperity of the internet and the well-being of mankind.

III. Means of Application

Leading Internet scientific and technological achievements will be collected from all over the world publicly online. Applicants shall submit application materials through the online system. The application materials have to be credible and persuasive. Each applicant can apply for multiple categories of achievements at the same time, but only one item in each category.

The Conference organizer will publish the Call for Achievements Collection and the link of the online application system at the WIC official website (www.wuzhenwic.org) and the official website of Cyberspace Administration of the People's Republic of China (www.cac.gov.cn).

Please kindly submit the application materials no later than August 20, 2018 for a timely collection and a smooth release.
