7. The Last Warrior Elephant

Presented by SMG Live and Shanghai Puppet Theatre, this play features life-size puppet elephants and was adapted from a novel of the same name by Shen Shixi. The major character Ga Suo is the last of a family of war elephants that survived a war. Elephants have a premonition of death about half a month before it arrives. Sensing its death, Ga Suo takes to the battlefield again before resting alongside its comrades. To prepare for the show and better hone their portrayal of the animal, puppet masters and puppeteers went to Yunnan to observe the animal. The play will be performed on Nov 3 and 4 at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
