Baidu's smart traffic lights installed in many cities
Smart traffic lights developed by tech giant Baidu have been installed in many cities in China and cut traffic delay time by 20-30 percent, said its CEO and chairman Robin Li, when he addressed the Baidu AI Developers Conference on Wednesday.
Li elaborated on the operation of smart traffic lights in Baoding, North China's Hebei province. Based on data from Baidu Maps and its vehicle navigation system, the smart traffic lights have significantly improved traffic efficiency in the city. Tests showed that the delay time during peak hours in the morning and evening was reduced by 20-30 percent. The smart traffic lights performed remarkably, especially in relieving unexpected traffic congestion.
"I believe that in the near future, more people will enjoy an efficient and cozy city life as more traffic light access to smart control and traffic delay is improved," said Li.
