Highlights of foreign congratulatory messages on PRC's 70th founding anniversary

BEIJING - Leaders of foreign countries and international organizations have sent a multitude of congratulatory messages to General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping to convey their best wishes on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

The following is an edited summary of some of these messages.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that in the past 70 years, China has attained remarkable achievements, turning itself into one of the world's most dynamic economies, and lifted 850 million people out of poverty, which is the greatest poverty reduction accomplishment in history.

China is a major participant in the work of the United Nations and a main pillar for international cooperation and multilateralism, he added, wishing the PRC greater glory in the future.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said that the 70th anniversary is highly symbolic, and that under the leadership of Xi, China is entering a new era and embracing the future with full confidence.

The 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, he added, will not only present a modern China to the world, but also write a new chapter in China's Olympic history.

Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Vladimir Norov said the PRC, since its founding, has scored glorious achievements in such fields as economy, culture, science and technology, as well as people's livelihood, making outstanding contributions to the progress of mankind.

The Belt and Road Initiative, he added, has garnered extensive endorsement and support from the international community, setting up a new platform for international cooperation and blazing a realistic path for building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat said the important occasion carries milestone-like significance for China, and meanwhile embodies the long-lasting friendship and brotherly solidarity between the African people and the Chinese people.

The relationship between Africa and China, he added, stands as a model to be proud of.
