Luxury retreat an ideal escape during festival holiday

If you are on the lookout for a convenient escape from the urban hustle and bustle for the upcoming festival season, a stylish hotel where modern art meets Chinese culture might be a good choice.

Jumeirah, the Dubai-based international hotelier behind the legendary Burj Al Arab, has brought its distinctive luxury from Dubai to Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province.

Earlier this month, Jumeirah Nanjing launched the "Dine in the Kitchen" experience to promote China's intangible cultural heritage－yunjin, cloud-patterned brocade originating in Nanjing.

Dine in the Kitchen is an experience where diners can observe the chefs cooking in the open kitchen. It is available throughout the year, the hotel said.

At the launch, the hotel announced its cooperation with the Nanjing-based Yunjin Research Institute. It promised to donate a portion of 2020's revenue from Dine in the Kitchen to support intangible cultural heritage, such as yunjin that inspired the curved lines on the hotel's exterior.

The respect for local culture is also evident in the interior design of the hotel, which has been given a Nanjing touch wherever possible to show its connection with the city. The atrium area of the guest rooms features yunjin showpieces and sandalwood clothes racks as a tribute to Nanjing's traditional craft.

Besides sights for sore eyes, the hotel's smells are similarly satisfying. The hotel has tailor-made a scent that fuses natural ingredients from the East and West to epitomize modern luxury.

If art and distinctive fragrances still don't do the job, it's time to bring out the food. The hotel's Lu Chao Chinese restaurant on the 40th floor offers modern Cantonese cuisine as well as incredible views of the Yangtze River and Hexi New Town. One floor above is Zhuo Xian seafood restaurant, which offers fresh modern seafood and ingeniously crafted cocktails, according to the hotel.

A gym is a necessity for health-conscious hotel guests. Talise Fitness on the 63rd floor lets guests take their fitness levels to new heights with the latest equipment and a sky atrium pool. Talise Spa on the same floor offers tranquility and rejuvenation with signature treatments, the hotel said.

Jumeirah Nanjing is located on floors 39 to 67 of the Nanjing International Youth Cultural Center designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid, overlooking the Yangtze River and the Nanjing Eye Pedestrian Bridge, the city's new landmark.
