Judges livestreaming property auction goes viral

A livestreamed property auction held by the Ningbo Intermediate Court in Zhejiang province has drawn wide attention and gone viral. Within an hour, properties worth a total of 100 million yuan ($14.3 million) were sold. Such auctions happen when a defendant's property in a lawsuit is seized by court order. The court then sells the property to pay off the defendant's debt. Recently, 13 courts across the country have started livestreaming judicial auctions. Many of those who have participated in the livestreams were impressed by the judges' sense of humor and funny comments, contrary to how they usually present themselves in court.

Human bodies to be composted in US

In April, Washington became the first state in the United States to legalize the composting of human bodies. As a result of the legislation, the world's first composting site, called Recompose, will open in spring 2021 in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood. Plans for the facility drawn by Olson Kundig Architects in collaboration with Katrina Spade, founder and CEO of Recompose, were released recently. The 1,700-square-meter facility has 75 hexagonal-shaped vessels in which bodies are stored for decomposition. Human composting is said to be more environmentally friendly than traditional methods of burial or cremation.
