Livestream festival kicks off in Quanzhou

A two-month livestreaming festival was launched on Thursday to promote products from Quanzhou, Fujian province, one of the major online retail product clusters in China.

More than 120,000 companies in Quanzhou are expected to join the event, aiming to generate 100 billion yuan ($14.13 billion) in revenue from industrial consumer product sales.

In partnership with e-commerce app Pinduoduo, the event will include events featuring mayors and county chiefs promoting local products.

Economic activities have largely resumed in Quanzhou, but industrial chains have not been fully activated because of the domestic and overseas epidemic situation, said Xiao Hanhui, deputy mayor of the city.

Xiao said he hoped the festival would help link up domestic and foreign trade and facilitate industrial, market, economic and social connections.

A number of brands, including for furniture and snacks, recorded strong sales on the first day of the festival.

Quanzhou's business sector and Pinduoduo will work for innovative measures that will foster talent related to livestreaming and consumer product brand building.

Businesses will also support some enterprises with strong production capacity in expanding the domestic market. The Quanzhou commerce bureau also issued policies for supporting e-commerce in the city on Thursday.
