TV series highlights efforts in poverty fight

Focusing on the stories of poverty alleviation in more than 40 villages nationwide, a three-part television series began airing on China Central Television on Thursday, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The three episodes, respectively titled The Last Hard Nut to Crack, The Shared Cause and No One to be Left Out, focus on the last crucial year of China's efforts in achieving the goal of building a society that is better off by the end of 2020.

The production team told Xinhua that the series is meant to encourage Chinese people in the battle for poverty alleviation, and mark this historic year.

Since the end of last year, CCTV parent company China Media Group has been sending journalists and video teams to the 40 villages, spread across more than 20 provinces and autonomous regions－especially the so-called "three regions and three prefectures", known for their extreme difficulty to apply effective poverty alleviation methods.

The areas cover remote villages in the Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions, as well as the provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu and Qinghai. People's efforts to strengthen infrastructure development and explore possible industrial support are recorded in the show.

The trailer for the series takes the audience from deep in the mountains to bumpy roads along precipitous cliffs via sweeping camera work.

President Xi Jinping said in March that all rural people will be lifted out of poverty under the current standard by the end of 2020, which is a solemn commitment of the Party to the Chinese people.
