Anti-dumping duties on Australian wines
China on Friday said that it will impose temporary anti-dumping duties of more than 100 percent on Australian wine imports. Domestic companies have faced substantial damages due to the dumping of the products, the Ministry of Commerce said in a preliminary ruling posted on its website. Starting Saturday, importers of Australian wine will be required to pay deposits ranging from 107.1 percent to 212.1 percent, the ministry said. After receiving requests from domestic companies, the ministry launched anti-dumping investigations into the imported products, said a statement from the ministry on Aug 18.
Bicycle exports surge as cycling demand up
Bicycle exports from China saw strong gains as COVID-19 precautions have prompted people worldwide to turn to cycling with some using electric bicycles for short journeys. The country exported 41.66 million bikes during the first nine months of this year, up 3.9 percent on a yearly basis, with sales revenue expanding 12 percent over the same period last year to $2.43 billion, according to data from the China Bicycle Association. The bicycle industry saw orders plummet and production slacken in the first half of this year due to the epidemic, but has recovered lost ground since July with bike outputs of some firms tripling from the pre-epidemic levels.
Xiaomi opens store in El Salvador
Technology giant Xiaomi, known for its smartphones, has opened its first store in El Salvador, also the brand's largest shop in the Central American region, according to its website. Already the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world in terms of shipments, Xiaomi is now venturing into the Salvadoran market with a "technology experience center" in one of the top shopping centers in the capital San Salvador.
