Top 30 mobile gaming firms earn $2.16b

China's top 30 mobile gaming companies earned a collective revenue of $2.16 billion in December last year, according to Sensor Tower, a mobile app data analysis firm. The amount accounts for 29 percent of the total revenue of the global mobile gaming market during the period, the firm said. In 2020, the total sales revenue of the top 30 mobile gaming giants increased by 45 percent on a yearly basis, and in contrast, the total payment made by mobile gamers in App Store and Google Play grew by 27.8 percent on a yearly basis, said Sensor Tower.

CBIRC fines seven for rule violations

The China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, China's top banking and insurance regulator, has slapped fines totaling 200 million yuan ($30.9 million) on seven institutions and individuals in its first crackdown on financial violations this year. Among those who have been fined are the State-owned Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which incurred a 54.7 million yuan fine for violations, including inadequate information disclosure about its wealth management products. The China Development Bank, one of the country's major policy banks, was fined 48.8 million yuan for breaches like the illegal collection of loan commitment fees from small and micro businesses.

Box office opens 2021 with record revenue

China's box office continued robust growth in 2021 after scoring a record high for New Year's Day earnings. China's total box-office revenue in the first 10 days of 2021 exceeded 2 billion yuan ($309 million), up by more than 730 million yuan year-on-year, data from movie-ticketing and film data platform Maoyan showed. Topping the chart was the heart-warming film A Little Red Flower, which generated more than 800 million yuan from Jan 1 to 10, contributing about 40 percent of the total.
