A mainland spokesman on Wednesday voiced dissatisfaction after G7 leaders underscored the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits in a communique released on Sunday.

In their Carbis Bay Summit communique, G7 leaders said that they "underscore the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait" and "encourage the peaceful resolution of cross-Strait issues".

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday that he wanted to ask G7 countries whether "the Democratic Progressive Party authorities of Taiwan are maintaining peace and stability across the Straits by repeated provocation in seeking independence, and undermining the status quo that both parties are part of one and the same China?"

"Don't they think that the Chinese government and people are upholding peace and stability across the Straits by adhering to the one-China principle, curbing secessionist acts and safeguarding the common interests of compatriots on both sides?" he asked.

Ma said that the root cause of the tension and turbulence in cross-Straits relations is the DPP authorities' stubborn adherence to the "Taiwan independence" stance.

"Even in the face of the worsening epidemic on the island, they still ignore the lives and health of the people, and put their own interests in seeking independence above the well-being of the people," he said, adding that "we will never allow anyone to separate Taiwan from China by any means".
