Users of IPv6 services to hit 700m by 2023

China aims to cultivate 700 million users of the Internet Protocol version 6(IPv6) based services by the end of 2023, according to a plan unveiled by three government bodies including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. IPv6 is the most recent version of the Internet Protocol (IP), the communications protocol that provides an identification and location system for computers on networks and routes traffic across the internet. It allows much higher theoretical limits on the number of IP addresses than the current IPv4 system. The plan also said China aims to build a benign development pattern of advanced IPv6 technology, industry, facilities, application and security system by the end of 2023.

Carmaker posts strong H1 sales

SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), a major Chinese automobile manufacturer, reported strong vehicle sales in the first six months of 2021, the company said. SGMW, a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors, sold 884,195 vehicles during the period, up by 39.5 percent year-on-year, maintaining a positive year-on-year growth for 15 consecutive months. The Wuling brand sold 693,351 units in the first six months, up by 56.84 percent year-on-year, while sales of Baojun, another vehicle brand of the company, reached 123,057 units.

Freight train hub says trips up in first half

Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, a major hub for China-Europe freight trains, saw 1,359 trips in the first half of the year, up over 50 percent year-on-year, local authorities said. The Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe railway, which is the first China-Europe freight train route, was put into operation in March 2011. Originally designed to transport laptops for local IT companies, the railway has now launched more than 30 routes, connecting over 40 cities in 26 countries and transporting over 1,000 types of goods ranging from whole vehicles and auto parts to medicines and consumer products.
