More historical dramas about the Communist Party of China will greet Hong Kong viewers as local broadcasters line up several Chinese mainland productions in a citywide screening campaign, which started on Monday.

Topping the list are a TV show about troops of the Chinese People's Volunteers Army, whoentered Korea in October 1950 at the request of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to resist US-led military forces onthe peninsula, and a historical drama about the decisive period leading up to the defeat of the Kuomintang and the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. A 24-episode documentaryon the CPC's journey over the pastcentury is also among the headliners.

The campaign opened as the popular show The Age of Awakening, another historical production by the China Media Group celebrating the CPC's centenary, won wide acclaim since its debut in Hong Kong on July 12.

At a launch ceremony on Monday, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said the screening campaign is a perfect opportunity for Hong Kong people to learn more about the CPC's history and to nurture their affection for the country.

As a co-organizer, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will provide strong support for the campaign, Lam said.

The programs will be broadcast in Mandarin and Cantonese on TVB Hong Kong, Hong Kong Cable Television, and the television channel of Radio Television Hong Kong.

RTHK, Hong Kong's only public broadcaster, will also launch more programs covering major topics such as national security, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the nation's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021- 25), she said.

This is to better help residents know more about the country's development and integrate the city into the country's overall development, Lam said.

CMG President and Editor-in-Chief Shen Haixiong said in a video speech that, besides Hong Kong, the CMG productions will also be broadcast overseas in 44 languages.

Shen, also a vice-minister of the CPC Central Committee's Publicity Department, said the CMG will also deepen ties with Hong Kong society to better promote Hong Kong stories in the new era, and help bolster and elevate the city's global standing.

Wang Songmiao, secretary-general of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, said the CMG has promoted various high-quality programs to Hong Kong residents over the years.

Since the CPC marked its 100th anniversary and the HKSAR its 24th anniversary on July 1, the address by President Xi Jinping at the centennial celebration has resonated in Hong Kong, he said.

The screening event will boost Hong Kong residents' national identity and national pride, Wang said.
