In a video speech at the forum on national reunification and rejuvenation held in Yichang, Hubei province, on Friday, Liu Junchuan, deputy head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee said that after the reunification with the motherland, Taiwan's fiscal revenue will be used to improve the well-being of residents on the island.

This caught widespread attention as it is the first time a senior official of the office has touched upon a topic regarding the specific policy arrangements for Taiwan after reunification.

In the first place, Liu's statement clearly demonstrates Beijing's resolve to realize national reunification, as well as its confidence that the Taiwan question will be settled in the foreseeable future.

Liu said that after reunification with the motherland, Taiwan's stability will be fully guaranteed, its economic development will be enhanced, and people's well-being will be improved, indicating that Beijing has already drawn up the public policy framework for the island.

Despite the complex and grave situation across the Taiwan Straits, no parties can hinder the just cause of reunification.

Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and compatriots on both sides of the Straits belong to the same nation. That is the unchangeable fact, and one acknowledged by the majority of the international community, including the United States, which recognizes that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China.

The Tsai Ing-wen administration has neither the legitimacy nor the ability to separate the island from the motherland.

Nonetheless, her secessionist-minded government is colluding with the United States to hijack the interests of Taiwan compatriots, feeling no qualms about playing into the hands of those US politicians which are eager to use the island as part of their strategy to contain China.

Such secessionist dreams are nothing but delusions, but the Democratic Progressive Party in pursuit of its agenda is trapping Taiwan compatriots in its self-deception that it can realize an "independent" status for Taiwan.

Those who forget their ancestors, betray the motherland and try to split the country will never come to a good end and surely go down in history as betraying the country. Taiwan's future hinges on reunification and rejuvenation. Taiwan compatriots should work together with the mainland to eradicate the curse of "Taiwan independence" and thwart any attempt at secession for their own interests and the interests of the nation.
