Totech Group Company Limited, a Hong Kong-based solution provider for waste classification and smart city management systems, sees in China a huge market for expanding its business as the country aims for more sustainable development.

"Such a big market with a population of 1.4 billion, and the country's push for carbon peak and carbon neutrality and its emphasis on waste classification offer us tremendous opportunities which we will do the utmost to grasp, and help the country push ahead waste classification," Totech CEO Luo Huijun said during the fourth China International Import Expo in Shanghai on Monday.

According to Luo, Totech has done business in the Chinese market for five years. So far, their systems for waste classification and smart cities have been put in operation in eight cities including Chongqing, Shijiazhuang, Qingdao and Weihai. "In addition, we have more than 160 dealers employing our products in the domestic market. The client total we directly provide services to have reached over 3.7 million, and the number is growing continuously."

Luo added their intelligent waste sorting and recycling products have been in operation in 300 projects in over 80 cities in China. The products are linked to their smart waste sorting system, based on a SaaS framework and the cloud platform of smart city management, which can improve the performance of sanitation operations and reduce costs.

"The institutionalized waste sorting solutions we came up with have now been accepted in more than 50 cities. As of last month, 46 cities have been piloting our refuse classification solutions," Luo said.

Totech is taking part in the CIIE for the first time, and sees the expo as a booster for expanding market and sales channels. "It is no doubt the CIIE helps us widen sales channels as well as show our latest technologies, solutions and products against the background of a world economy affected by the pandemic." According to Luo, Totech has attracted several dozen potential clients during the CIIE.

"Our core competitiveness is intelligence. By combining internet with waste sorting, we hope to be able to popularize this advanced technology," Luo said.

"At present, governments at all levels are promoting intelligent cities, including intelligent urban management, intelligent public transportation and intelligent waste sorting. For our company, we hope to increase our market share by boosting the domestic waste sorting market. As an environmental protection enterprise, we pay close attention to this aspect and can really feel the efforts made by China in terms of intelligent city and waste sorting in recent years," Luo noted.
