At the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum annual meeting on Jan 17, 2017, President Xi Jinping shared China's proposals to solve the world's economic problems, boosting the world's confidence in shared development.

On Jan 25, 2021, Xi delivered a speech at the WEF Davos Agenda via video, elaborating on what kind of multilateralism the world needs and how China upholds genuine multilateralism.

Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, in the speech he delivered by video at this year's WEF virtual session on Monday, President Xi offered the world lessons from China's experience in overcoming what look like insurmountable challenges.

The WEF's online week (Jan 17-21) offers world leaders and other participants a platform to reflect on the global economic situation and devise solutions. At a time when the pandemic continues to rage and the uncertainties surrounding a global economic recovery are mounting, global leaders and other state and non-state actors must work together to address global challenges.

With dark clouds casting shadows on the world, China's accurate assessment of the global situation and its putting into action the vision of a community with a shared future for humankind offer the world a Chinese solution and wisdom.

China has set a good example of epidemic prevention and control, showing the world an effective way to pursue both epidemic prevention and economic and social development. China was also the first country to pledge COVID-19 vaccines as a global public good and is the largest supplier of vaccines to other countries, shouldering its responsibility as a major country. It has set a timetable for peaking carbon emissions and realizing carbon neutrality, based on its practical "development wisdom". While its ratification of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, its accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and application for access to the Digital Economy Partnership showcase its willingness to continue opening up to further drive the global economic recovery.

China rose from 35th in the world's innovation rankings in 2013 to 12th in 2021, making it the highest-ranking middle-income economy and demonstrating to the world how innovation can help promote balanced, coordinated and inclusive development.

The challenges before human society are increasingly global and require active cooperation of all countries. China's experience, solutions and wisdom can help give stronger impetus to the international community's joint response to these challenges.
