Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee Ka-chiu said the Communist Party of China's 20th National Congress has pointed the way forward for the country and Hong Kong and is of great importance.

Writing on his social media page on Saturday, he congratulated the Party on the successful conclusion of the weeklong event on the same day.

Lee said the congress is not only a milestone in the Party's history. It has far-reaching implications for the future.

The congress comprehensively reviewed the achievements and valuable experience the nation has made so far, and drilled down the situation at home and abroad, Lee said. Strategic development plans have also been set for the next five years.

For Hong Kong, the event has expounded on the implementation of "one country, two systems" and brought forward the city's expectations, flagging the way forward for the special administrative region.

Lee unveiled his maiden Policy Address on Wednesday, rolling out a raft of new initiatives to stimulate the economy and improve livelihood.

He said the SAR government will continue to administer the city under the guidance of the "four musts" and "four hopes" set by Xi Jinping to unite the Hong Kong community in forging ahead and contributing to the nation's great rejuvenation.

Principal officials of the Hong Kong SAR government also offered their congratulations on the successful conclusion of the Communist Party of China's 20th National Congress, saying it has set the direction for uniting the city to advance its integration into national development.

In a social media post on Saturday, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said Hong Kong needs to actively give full play to the 11-city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and seize the historical opportunities arising from the congress so that the SAR can put its economy back on track and contribute to the nation by leveraging its strengths to meet the country's needs.

Secretary for Justice Lam Ting-kwok noted that Xi Jinping's report at the closing ceremony of the congress again mentioned the importance of one country, two systems" and pledged to uphold the principle in the long term as it's the best institutional arrangement for maintaining Hong Kong's continued stability and prosperity.

Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung said the successful convening of the congress has united minds, reinforced confidence and set the direction for Hong Kong while boosting morale. The congress has shown the way for the SAR to integrate into the nation's development and guide the city to better implement "one country, two systems".

Luo Huining, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said the reports delivered at the congress have brought a slew of new ideas and strategies on "one country, two systems", with the important attention the CPC Central Committee, with Xi Jinping at its core, has attached to the cause of "one country, two systems". It also showcased the Party's deep understanding of Hong Kong and Macao affairs.

In a media interview on the Chinese mainland, Luo said the ideas have offered Hong Kong guidance in marching from order to prosperity, and will surely be firmly upheld by all compatriots, including those in Hong Kong.
