Stable employment remains a challenge this year: Spokesperson

There are many challenges to ensure stable employment due to the large number of new college graduates this year and the mismatch of job candidates' skills with the demand for posts, said Guo Weimin, the spokesperson of the first session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Noting that more than 11.5 million college students are expected to graduate this year, Guo said there are a large number of people waiting to get employed.

However, he said there are also favorable conditions for stable employment this year.

China's economy is poised to recover due to the optimization of COVID-19 epidemic control measures and the series of measures taken to stabilize economy, which will lay a solid foundation for stable employment, he said at a news conference on Friday.

The implementation of policies issued by local governments and central government departments will also safeguard the employment situation, he said.

The CPPCC National Committee pays great attention to employment and has made great efforts in stabilizing and promoting employment, he said.

Members of the CPPCC National Committee have submitted many proposals on the sector and more are expected to be submitted this year, he said.

The Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee held a special meeting on employment in August, with Wang Yang, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attending it, Guo said.

Eleven members of the CPPCC National Committee offered suggestions to promote employment and officials from 15 central government departments attended the meeting, he said, adding that many suggestions and proposals made by the members have been accepted by government departments.
