Budweiser China, a business unit of Hong Kong-listed Budweiser Brewing Co APAC Ltd, joined hands with the traffic police general brigade of Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau to co-host road safety publicity spring campaign on last Friday to promote the awareness of road safety.

Taking place in the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai, Ding Bin, director of publicity center from the traffic police general brigade of Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, said civilized manners and law-abiding behaviors can build a defensive line for road safety, and safer travel back home relates to the happiness of every individual and family.

"We hope that in the future, more businesses will take up social responsibility to facilitate the development of a safe, smooth, civilized and harmonious road traffic environment here in China," he said.

During the event, Budweiser China was once again awarded the title of "Road Safety Public Service Partner in Shanghai", the eighth consecutive year it has received the honor.

"For us, the title is both an affirmation and a motivation. As we believe that every experience with beer should be a positive one, we hope to deliver 'Smart Drinking, No Drink-Driving' idea in a more vivid way and guide more public to build road safety awareness," said Konnie Zhu, vice-president for corporate affairs of Budweiser China.

"Budweiser China will unswervingly echo the call of traffic police authorities and engage the whole society for collaborative governance and innovative advocacy, so that more people can access ideas about law-abiding traffic manners and smart drinking culture," she said.

While China's road traffic has seen rapid growth in recent years, there's still space to improve the overall safety situation. The number of road traffic fatalities amounted to 62,218 in China in 2021, along with relatively common traffic violations, statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics show.

Eager to ensure children's safe travel, Budweiser China to date has donated more than 8,000 road safety education toolkits, 100 road safety conduct toolkits, and 5,000 children's reflective vests, facilitating road traffic safety education among children and teenagers across China.

As a supporter of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030, released by the World Health Organization in 2021, AB InBev has been advancing the 10-year action plan, utilizing innovative approaches such as digitalization to reinvent efforts related to road traffic safety.

The group has renewed its partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research last year, kicking off new collaborations in areas including advocating responsible drinking, empowering female entrepreneurs and improving water management.

"We always put ESG (environmental, social, and governance) at the heart of our strategy and operations, and actively fulfill the commitments related to 'Smart Drinking and Moderate Drinking', hoping to lead positive drinking experiences with a smart drinking culture," said Craig Katerberg, chief legal and corporate affairs officer of Budweiser APAC.
