Liu Kuang-Ti, a businessman from Taiwan, hoped more people in Taiwan could have an opportunity, as he did, to enjoy the fruits of development on the Chinese mainland — and vice versa.

Liu, 51, has lived on the mainland for 20 years. He is now a general manager at an express delivery company in Zhangzhou, Fujian province. His family members — his wife, a daughter and a son — are all with him in Zhangzhou.

In 2003, Liu came to the mainland to start a business.

"At the time, I felt there would be great business opportunities in all fields," he said.

At first, Liu targeted the home textile market by working for a brand of home furnishings. At peak times, he ran 12 outlets in Zhangzhou and Xiamen.

Because of his outstanding achievements, Liu was promoted to a top management post in 2006.

In 2014, he quit his job and decided to give himself a challenge by becoming a corporate consultant and lecturer specializing in marketing and corporate operations.

Several years later, Liu noticed rapid development in the field of e-commerce on the mainland, and he predicted that the related express delivery industry would have great prospects. So he switched to the delivery industry.

Unlike other delivery companies, most of his employees are deaf.

"The deaf are only responsible for point-to-point delivery. They can't hear you, but they're very effective and efficient," Liu said.

"In the future, we hope to build a public welfare platform for disabled people's employment services to benefit more disabled people and vulnerable groups," Liu said.

Over the past 20 years, Liu has been to many places on the Chinese mainland.

"Many people from Taiwan have come to create businesses on the mainland, and even settled down — including me," he said.

It's not just the big opportunities that are attractive, he added, but also the fact that the mainland is easy to integrate with, which is fundamental.

"I hope that people on the mainland and Taiwan can share the fruits of development together," he said, adding that Taiwan also has beautiful scenery and great people.
