State Grid Aksu Power Supply Company pilots microgrid to ensure electricity in remote areas

To further enhance the power grid in remote areas, the State Grid Aksu Power Supply Company in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region organized the region's first microgrid demonstration project review and discussion meeting on Nov 25. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the feasibility of constructing microgrids in remote areas and to determine the pilot construction in the Aksu region, thereby promoting the upgrade of local power grids.

A microgrid is a small-scale power supply system composed of distributed power sources, energy storage devices, energy conversion devices, load, monitoring and protection devices. The system can operate after being connected to the main grid under normal conditions and quickly switch to isolated operation when the main grid fails, ensuring continuous power supply to critical users. The State Grid Aksu Power Supply Company plans to explore the application potential of microgrids in remote areas through the pilot project in Kuqa.

During the review and discussion meeting, the company conducted an in-depth analysis of the current power supply and demand and the challenges faced in remote areas, highlighting the important role of microgrid projects such as those that use "wind-solar-hydro-storage" in addressing these issues. The meeting also included detailed discussions on project site selection, layout and integration plans, and extensive exchanges on the technical paths, economic benefits and social benefits of microgrid construction.

At the meeting, experts agreed that the construction of the microgrid demonstration project is of great significance for enhancing the flexibility and reliability of the power grid. Especially in remote areas, microgrids can effectively solve problems such as unstable power supply and poor power quality. By utilizing renewable energy, microgrids can promote the development of green energy, achieving a win-win situation in terms of socioeconomic benefits.

The State Grid Aksu Power Supply Company said that the meeting clarified the direction and path for microgrid construction and reached a consensus on the significance of the microgrid demonstration project in the Kuqa region. Next, the company will accelerate the construction of the project to ensure that it can be put into operation as soon as possible, providing strong support for the power supply in remote areas.

The construction of this microgrid demonstration project is not only an attempt by the State Grid Aksu Power Supply Company in technology innovation but also an important measure to promote regional socioeconomic development and improve people's livelihoods. In the future, with the development of microgrid technology and the expansion of its application, it is believed that it will bring great benefits to the power supply in more remote areas, the company said.
