Shanxi advances energy revolution and reform

The third session of the 14th Shanxi Provincial People's Congress concluded on Tuesday after completing its five-day agenda in Taiyuan, Shanxi province.

Tang Dengjie, Party secretary of the province and director of the Standing Committee of the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, stated in his speech that the province is rapidly expanding the energy revolution, continuously deepening reform and opening up and taking solid new steps in the practice of Shanxi's Chinese-style modernization.

As 2025 marks the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), as well as an important year for the further comprehensive deepening of reform, Shanxi will resolutely promote high-quality development to achieve the overall stability and progress of the economic operation and accelerate the development of modern industrial systems, he said.

Tang emphasized that Shanxi is developing new quality productive forces according to local conditions, coordinating the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, cultivating and strengthening emerging industries and laying out the future of industrial development.

Shanxi is accelerating the construction of a modern industrial system with distinctive advantages, solidly promoting the transformation and development of the resource-based economy and further consolidating and enhancing the positive economic recovery trend.

"We must coordinate the deepening of reforms and high-level opening up and thoroughly implement the strategy of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin," he said. "We will create a market-oriented, rule-of-law, internationalized and first-class business environment and strive to build a new frontier for opening up in inland areas."

He stated that efforts should be made to coordinate the new urbanization and comprehensive revitalization of rural areas and to continue to consolidate the achievements in poverty alleviation.

"We will make every effort to improve people's livelihoods in employment, education, healthcare, elderly care and housing," he said. "We will focus on solving urgent and difficult issues for the masses, earnestly and vigorously handle practical livelihood matters and continuously improve the well-being of the people."

"We will give full play to the nation's multiple development advantages and the rich energy resources of Shanxi to achieve tangible results in various aspects," he said. "We must conscientiously fulfill the duties conferred by the Constitution and laws to better transform the institutional advantages of the People's Congress system into effective governance in Shanxi."
