SCO sustainable development conference opens in Chongqing

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Multilateral Economic and Trade Platform Sustainable Development Conference commenced in Chongqing on June 20.

A significant memorandum of understanding was signed between the SCO Economic and Trade Platform, the Yunnan Mengzi Economic and Technological Development Zone, and the Honghe Comprehensive Bonded Zone.

This strategic agreement aims to enhance cooperation in key industries such as non-ferrous metals, new materials, electronic information and components, and new energy.

Yunnan, serving as a crucial gateway for China to South and Southeast Asia, offers unique geographical advantages, abundant natural resources, and a rich cultural heritage. These attributes complement the SCO Economic and Trade Platform's extensive international network resources.

A notable highlight of the conference was the unveiling of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area SCO Price Dispute Mediation Center. This center is dedicated to offering efficient, professional, and international price dispute mediation and arbitration services for member enterprises of the SCO Economic and Trade Platform.

The conference also marked the launch of the Chongqing Liangjiang New Area SCO ESG Promotion Association. This association seeks to establish a core platform for promoting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concepts, conducting standard research, building capacity, and exchanging best practices.

Efforts are underway to establish a scientific, unified, and transparent regional carbon emission data collection, accounting, disclosure, and evaluation system. This system will provide authoritative data support and assessment tools for member countries in formulating climate policies, enterprises in conducting carbon management, and financial institutions in green financing.
