China willing to work with all sides to strengthen UN

China stands ready to work with all sides to renew commitment to the founding mission of the United Nations, abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and jointly strengthen the role of the organization, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

Guo Jiakun, spokesman for the ministry, made the remarks as Thursday, the UN Charter Day.

This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the organization.

The signing of the UN Charter and the founding of the UN 80 years ago declared the steadfast commitment of the international community to ending wars and promoting cooperation, which ushered in a new historical chapter of countries working together for peace and development, Guo told a regular news briefing.

The purposes and principles of the UN Charter have become fundamental guidance for handling international relations and a crucial cornerstone for the stability of the international order, he said.

"On the 80th anniversary of the signing of the charter, we should not only renew its spirit, but also carry forward and bring new life into it," he said.

As the first country to put its signature on the charter, China has always strictly followed the norms governing international relations, faithfully fulfilled its international obligations and made positive contributions to the peace and development of humanity, Guo noted.

China is willing to work with various parties to practice genuine multilateralism, improve global governance, and uphold international fairness and justice, he said.
