Shanghai Pudong airport launches 24-hour services for travelers

Shanghai Pudong International Airport launched round-the-clock services including customs, border inspection and security checks on Tuesday for international travelers going to destinations outside the Chinese mainland.

According to Shanghai Airport Group, eight new services have been launched to comprehensively improve Shanghai's image as an aviation hub and attract more international travelers. The services include rest cabins and shower facilities for transfer passengers and late night rest lounges.

In addition, airport management is targeting a reduction in transit time to 75 minutes for transitions between domestic flights, and 90 minutes for international transfers involving transit between terminals.

To better facilitate transfer passengers' various needs while they wait, the airport is set to launch the first batch of rest cabins and 11 shower rooms, with a new hotel also opening soon. Plans for a capsule hotel within the airport are also in the pipeline.

Overnight rest areas will be set aside at all three of the airport's terminals, offering sofas and deck chairs for passengers staying overnight. Round-the-clock services for device charging, convenience stores, vending machines and catering will also be available in these areas.

Coupons will be provided for passengers whose flights are delayed, and online lost and found services will be available via the airport's WeChat mini program.

Along with the pet-in-cabin service launched by Chinese airlines, Shanghai Airport Group has upgraded its pet friendly service to include a check-in counter, security check, rest and boarding, allowing pet-owners to have a more comfortable travel experience.

"The goal is to provide passengers with more comfortable, convenient and considerate services," an official from Shanghai Airport Group told the Jiefang Daily.

"Shanghai Airport is striving to become the first choice for global passenger transit and make Shanghai the first stop for inbound travelers to China."
