Qingdao WCNA sees milestone progress in major offshore oil engineering project

The 24-7 WHPA topside module for the Xijiang 24 zone development project, a major offshore oil engineering project, has been completed at the Qingdao International High-end Equipment Manufacturing Base in Qingdao West Coast New Area (WCNA) of Qingdao in East China's Shandong province and is being delivered to the project site. 

The platform has set multiple records with its pioneering techniques, including the integrated pre-fabrication and hoisting of electrical modules and the mid-voltage shore power commissioning mode for the topside module.

Weighing approximately 3,310 metric tons, the module consists of a two-level deck structure with the main deck measuring 36.3 meters in length and 36.1 meters in width, equivalent to the size of three basketball courts.

The design incorporates various digital technologies enabling functions such as intelligent oil extraction, smart equipment maintenance, and advanced security measures.

The project marks a major effort to boost the digital transformation of offshore oilfields. Operating at a water depth of approximately 90 meters, it involves the construction of a new unmanned platform, an 8.5-kilometer subsea pipeline, and an 8.5-kilometer umbilical cable, alongside the upgrade and renovation of the Xijiang 24-3B platform.

Installation will begin after the 24-7 WHPA topside module was transported to the Xijiang oilfield waters over a distance of around 2,000 kilometers. Once put into operation, it will serve the Xijiang oilfield waters in the eastern part of the South China Sea.
