As China's pet-owning population expands, a new reality show, Go Go Goal, is shining a spotlight on the opportunities and tensions surrounding pets in public spaces.

Featuring celebrities traveling with their dogs, the program documents the joys of pet companionship while examining how well Chinese cities accommodate furry travelers — from parks and malls to hotels and airports.

The show arrives at a time when pet ownership is surging nationwide, sparking both enthusiasm and tension. While advocates emphasize the emotional benefits of pets, others raise concerns about public safety, hygiene and the rights of non-pet owners. Go Go Goal aims to navigate these complexities by promoting responsible ownership alongside practical guides to pet-friendly venues.

Shenzhen in Guangdong province, the show's first stop, exemplifies progress with over 10 pet-welcoming parks, more than 50 animal-friendly shopping centers and 1,000 or so restaurants that allow pets to come in. It also boasts an airport pet lounge.

As the cast — including actors Ao Ziyi, Yu Chengen, Yan An, and rapper Sha Yiting — experiences the challenges of flying, dining and lodging with pets, the series showcases the vast possibilities of pet-friendly travel for viewers.

The reality show aims to further pioneer innovative approaches for the cultural and tourism industry, injecting fresh momentum into its development. The show spotlights innovative "pet + tourism" offerings — from portrait studios catering to pet owners and their pets, to esports hotels welcoming furry guests, and even dedicated pet fashion weeks — creating new consumption models and diversifying the sector's business ecosystem.

After charting Shenzhen's pet-friendly landscape, the reality show will be setting its sights on Changsha, Hunan province.
