Global conference on green carbon held in Qingdao
The 2nd International Conference on Green Carbon (ICGC) began in Qingdao on Sept 14, bringing together over 300 experts and scholars from 22 countries for the three-day event.
Co-organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province and the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, the conference aims to foster in-depth discussions on fields such as green bio-manufacturing and green energy chemical industry.
The conference included keynote speeches by the award recipients, along with four parallel sessions featuring 122 oral presentations.
Du Min, deputy director of the Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology, emphasized that Qingdao is committed to becoming an international hub for science and technology innovation, implementing global cooperation initiatives to integrate worldwide innovation resources and strengthen exchanges with nations around the world.
Lyu Xuefeng, director of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), outlined the institute's strategy to lead in green and low-carbon technology by integrating basic and applied research, innovation and demand-driven projects, talent development and output delivery, as well as aligning national strategies with regional development. Key efforts include advancing the state-level key laboratories of solar photoconversion and utilization, accelerating breakthroughs in core technologies, and establishing a high-level global cooperation network.
The opening ceremony also featured the presentation of the inaugural green carbon outstanding achievement award. The awardees included Academician He Mingyuan of the CAS, Academician Tan Tianwei of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Foreign Academician Michael Gr?tzel of the CAS.
