Xinjiang's Grand Bazaar delights visitors without travel plans

To truly understand a place, start by visiting its most bustling areas. In Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, locals often recommend the Grand Bazaar as the first stop for visitors without a travel plan.
To experience Xinjiang's rich culture firsthand, China Daily reporter Yan An, joined by Evgen, an international student from Xinjiang University, set off on a spontaneous trip to Urumqi's International Grand Bazaar.
For Evgen, who is from Kazakhstan, the foods and musical instruments on display felt instantly familiar—just like home. This familiarity highlights Xinjiang's unique dynamism as a place where diverse cultures meet. At the end of their journey, Evgen said, "Xinjiang is wonderful. You should come and see for yourself."
