China takes to road on first day of national holiday

China's Ministry of Transport said on Wednesday that an estimated 336.79 million trips were made nationwide on the first day of Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holiday, up 1.7 percent from the same period last year.
Highways accounted for the majority of travel, with an estimated 310 million trips, up 1.2 percent compared with the same day last year, while railways were expected to handle about 23 million passenger trips, up 7.2 percent year-on-year.
Waterways were expected to see 1.22 million passenger trips, surging 11.2 percent from a year earlier, while civil aviation passenger trips were forecast at 2.48 million, up 3.4 percent year-on-year, according to the ministry.
