LG Display expects 50% rise in LCD TVs shipped in China

South Korean flat-screen maker LG Display expects a more than 50 percent increase in shipments of liquid crystal display (LCD) TV panels in China in 2009.

Gyo-Young Song, LG Display's sales chief in charge of south China, said the LCD TV business in China is hardly affected by a slowing economy, as the falling price of LCD TVs caused by the economic slowdown has made them affordable in smaller Chinese cities and rural areas.

LG Display recently raised its forecast demand for LCD TVs in China to 20 million to 24 million units this year, up from 15.7 million units.

It said the Chinese government's economic stimulus plan and efforts to give subsidies to electronic consumers in rural areas will significantly boost the LCD TV market in China.
