Beijing-based Tsinghua University's EMBA program topped the biannual list of China's Best Executive Master of Business Administration Programs released by Chinese business magazine Sino-manager on Thursday.

The six-month survey was finalized with Zhou Jianhua, executive editor-in-chief of the magazine, announcing the 20 best EMBA programs in China at a press conference held in Beijing on Thursday.

The top four on the rankings remained unchanged from the results in 2007 when the first EMBA ranking list in China was compiled by the magazine: EMBA programs at the School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, China Europe International Business School, Guanghua School of Management under Peking University, and Antai College of Economics and Management subordinate to Shanghai Jiaotong University.

Seven other programs were ranked five to ten, with two programs sharing the No 10 seat. With some programs climbing up the list and some falling compared with two years ago, the new list shows the competition among China's EMBA programs has intensified, which also shows China's EMBA education is maturing, said Chen Zhenye, also executive editor-in-chief of the magazine.

The magazine also released three individual awards on course innovation, leadership building and students' consensus. The prizes went to EMBA programs at Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sun University and Xiamen University.

The rankings were based on a nationwide survey on 45 of China's EMBA programs offered by Chinese universities or independent business schools.

The survey mainly looked at the quality of the business schools as well as their EMBA programs and students, and also took employers' comments into consideration. It has evaluated the programs' comprehensive quality, including teachers, course arrangements, students' backgrounds, brand value, and alumni network.

EMBA programs target senior executives like presidents, vice presidents and senior managers of companies. China began its EMBA education in 2002.

Business schools that are qualified to provide EMBA programs total 62 in China, offering 100-plus programs with new enrollment exceeding 15,000 students every year.
