According to statistics from the Danish interest group Invest in Denmark, around 40 large Chinese firms have now established branches and representative offices in Denmark, as a bridgehead for the Nordic market.

The Danish financial daily, Boersen, reported that it is primarily companies involved in information technology, life science and sustainable energy that are working to establish their local headquarters in Denmark.

The CEO of Invest in Denmark Henrik Brandt Jensen is certain that the number of Chinese firms in Denmark is growing.

"Chinese companies are increasingly interested in investing in Denmark. This year eight new firms have started up in Denmark, while four years ago, the number was only two or three," said Jensen to Boersen.

"China's overseas investment has in the past primarily been to obtain ?raw materials. However, changes have emerged in recent years," he added.

Invest in Denmark is an interest organization that is under the Danish Foreign Ministry. Its primary purpose is to attract foreign investments to Denmark.

The data from Invest in Denmark showed that the Chinese companies in Denmark are primarily located in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

Among some well-known Chinese companies in Denmark are the car maker BYD, the telecommunications company Huawei and BGI Genomics.

Jensen is very keen on attracting more Chinese companies to Denmark.

"The interest (for investing in Denmark) has exploded, particularly in the kind of investments that Denmark is interested in. Our focus is solely to attract knowledge-intensive companies that can create new Danish jobs," said Jensen to Boersen.
