BEIJING - The Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has held a meeting to solicit opinions from members of non-communist political parties on the draft report for the 18th Party Congress, according to a statement made public on Monday.

While presiding over the meeting, which was held on September 3, President Hu Jintao stressed that the country is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges, as the international situation is experiencing deep and complicated changes and the country's missions concerning reform, development and stability are becoming more arduous.

"We must make use of these opportunities and cope with challenges vigorously and effectively," Hu said.

Hu made the remarks after briefing non-Party members on how the draft report was formed and hearing speeches delivered by several non-CPC members.

The non-Party speakers agreed that the CPC Central Committee has been guided by Deng Xiaoping Theory and the Three Represents, as well as thoroughly carried out the Scientific Outlook on Development, since the 17th Party Congress.

They hailed the CPC Central Committee's full efforts in pushing forward reform and opening-up, as well as the country's prominent achievements in economic, political, cultural, social and conservation development.

The non-Party members said that the draft report for the 18th CPC National Congress is mind-opening, honest and up-to-date, as well as reflects the people's expectations.

The speakers also raised suggestions regarding growth stabilization, structural adjustments, improving multi-party cooperation under the CPC, educational reform, social management, social justice and preventing corruption.

Hu expressed gratitude on behalf of the CPC Central Committee for their suggestions and urged the group drafting the report to meticulously research the suggestions.

Hu urged joint efforts from members of the CPC, non-communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, as well as personages without party affiliation, to work toward reaching the goal of building a well-off society by 2020.

In addition, Hu vowed that the CPC will strengthen cooperation with non-communist parties for the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
