Low Carbon Living Lab in Tianjin Eco-City receives BCA's Green Mark Platinum Award

The Low Carbon Living Lab (LCLL) in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City received the Green Mark Platinum Award by Singapore's Building Construction Authority (BCA) on Thursday.

The LCLL is a project developed by SSTEC with support from BCA, International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) and the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Administrative Committee (ECAC).

Designed to be a "Living Lab", the LCLL encourages test-bedding and demonstration of green building features, energy saving building technologies and renewable energy adoption. Since the start of its operation in 2014, the LCLL has attained several achievements, such as 28% of energy utilization derived from renewable sources, 30% less energy consumed compared to similar buildings in Tianjin and using 30% recyclable materials in the building’s construction.

The Green Mark Scheme was launched by BCA in 2005 to promote environmental awareness in the construction and real estate sectors. In September 2013, the LCLL received the pre-certification of BCA Green Mark Platinum Award. Following one year's tracking and monitoring of key data, the LCLL has met the required eco-Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and obtained the full certification. Previously, in 2013, the LCLL had also received the China Green Building Design Label 3-Star Award from China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

It also met the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City's Green Building Evaluation Standard (GBES), developed by experts from Singapore and China.
