    Russia

    Chinese workers fined, deported

Around 570 Chinese working at greenhouses in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar without work permits have been deported, RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday. Regional police said the workers also received a combined fine of $28,000. Another 100 Chinese working illegally were arrested in the neighboring Volgograd region. A spokeswoman for the local Housing Administration said on Monday that they were found in an illegal greenhouse as large as 42 soccer fields.

    Mali

Keita set to be new president

Former prime minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita won Mali's presidency after his opponent conceded defeat late on Monday in an election aimed at restoring stability to a country wracked by a rebellion, a coup and an Islamic insurgency. Soumalia Cisse's concession averts a protracted election fight.

    The Philippines

2 dead despite Utor rescue try

Philippine rescuers used helicopters and bulldozers on Tuesday to reach isolated towns devastated by deadly Typhoon Utor, which left tens of thousands homeless and a trail of destruction in its wake. The government reported that two people had been confirmed killed and 11 others were missing after Utor, the strongest storm this year, swept across the north of the country on Monday.

    France

    2 climbers killed in avalanche

Two Italians died overnight on Tuesday after they were swept away by an avalanche while climbing in the Mont Blanc massif in the French Alps, local officials said. Six climbers were caught up in the avalanche as they were ascending Mont Blanc du Tacul, at an altitude of 4,200 meters. Three of the six were buried under the snow, including the two Italians, who were later found dead.

    Japan

    Tsunami ship to be scrapped

A fishing boat that was swept far inland by the 2011 tsunami in Japan and became one of the most poignant symbols of the disaster is to be scrapped, authorities said on Tuesday. Officials in the city of Kesennuma, which was flattened in the disaster, said the decision to dismantle the 60-meter ship, named the No 18 Kyotoku-maru, came after local people said they wanted it gone.

    Czech Republic

    PM hands in resignation

The Czech cabinet led by leftist economist Jiri Rusnok handed its resignation to President Milos Zeman on Tuesday after a month in power after losing a confidence vote in parliament last week, the prime minister's spokesman said.
