    Experts see little possibility of ruinous quake in NE China

    Experts from the seismological bureau of Jilin Province, northeast China, agreed Saturday that there exists little possibility exists for ruinous earthquake to jolt the province in the near future.

    An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted Wangqing County of the province, at 43.5 degrees north latitude and 130.6 degrees east longitude, at 01"The quake was felt in most regions of the province, the neighboring provinces, or even Zhejiang Province about 2,000 kilometers away in the eastern coast of the country. No casualties or damages have been reported yet.

    Dong Jichuan, director of the provincial seismological bureau, told Xinhua that Jilin Province is located in a site unlikely to be hit by frequent earthquakes. Statistics show that only three strong earthquakes measuring 5.6, 5.2, 7.0 on the Richter scale jolted the province in 1960, 1966 and 1999, respectively.
