    China encourages private companies to invest abroad

    A Chinese trade official said here Tuesday that China encourages all kinds of enterprises, including private companies, to invest abroad.

    Assistant to Minister Chen Jian of the Ministry of Commerce spoke while meeting with Gregoire Laourou, Minister of Finance andEconomy of Benin.

    China and Benin share great potential for cooperation in the fields of textile industry, agriculture, machinery products and infrastructure construction such as building of roads and power stations.

    Laourou said that Benin hoped to see more Chinese enterprises investing in the country and the construction of hospitals, schools, roads and the textile industry could be priorities.

    China-Benin trade hit 250 million US dollars in the first six months of 2003 and the annual trade volume was 430 million US dollars in 2002.
