    Macao marks World Tourism Day
    ( 2003-09-28 10:03) (Xinhua)

Tourists who arrived in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) with lucky numbers were welcomed by a sweet surprise as they were presented with tourist souvenirs by the SAR's tourist officials waiting at land, ferry and airport entry-points on Saturday.

This was how the tourist city embarked on a series of activities to mark the World Tourist Day celebration.

As a large number of tourists are expected to come to Macao from the Chinese mainland now that China started to implement the facilitated individual travel (FIT) policy on Macao/Hong Kong- bound travels in August, Macao hopes to impress them with colorful tourist activities.

A three-hour-long tourist promotional campaign was held in front of the Macao Tower Saturday afternoon, which included lion dances, a cocktail party, Mexican folk music and dances. The celebration culminated in a lucky-draw with the first prize being a luxury Benz S350L worth some one million patacas (125,000 US dollars). A tourist from Hong Kong won the prize.
