Safety violations found cause of coal-dust explosion
    ( 2003-10-22 16:51) (Xinhua)

The coal-dust explosion Tuesday in Wuhai City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which left six people dead and one seriously injured, was found to be caused by violations of safety regulations.

A safety inspection official with the Wuhai City Coal Industry Administration said on Wednesday that Huang Yongchang, head of the Luotuoshan Colliery, led six other miners down the shaft to do repair work.

One miner set off the explosives without having carried out a safety check of gas and coal dust in the working platform as required, which ignited the gas and stirred up the coal dust in the working area.

The safety violation resulted in the explosion on parts of the working platform that immediately killed six miners and seriously wounded the rest one.
