Official: HK's electoral affairs transparent, clean
    ( 2003-11-19 21:31) (Xinhua)

Hong Kong's electoral affairs have been, for the past years, very transparent and clean, Hong Kong's Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam said Wednesday.

Lam made the remarks in response to questions regarding the upcoming District Council Election which is slated for Nov. 23.

He noted that different political parties and candidates in the special administrative region (SAR) on the whole cherish high respect for the rule of law, adding that various elections have been clean and the election ordinances clearly specified.

The official expressed hopes that the candidates would continue to win the support of electorates in a pragmatic manner.

He pointed out that every public figure should, in their effort to meet the expectation of the public, regard the interests of Hong Kong people as the end-point of their various efforts, and take concrete measures to bring forward suggestions on improving the SAR's economy, society and living environment.

Lam said the SAR government would conduct a review of the District Council Election after Nov. 23.
