    First win for Chinese men

    Aaian runner-up China swept Egypt 3-0 in Hiroshima, Japan, on Thursday to claim its first win at the men’s volleyball World Cup.

    The Chinese snapped their three-match losing streak with a 25-22, 25-20, 31-29 victory.

    Playing against the winless Egyptians, China looked more confident than in its first three matches.

    Shen Qiong led China with 20 points.

    Serbia-Montenegro beat Canada 25-14, 23-25, 25-20, 26-24 to record its fourth straight victory. United States beat Japan 19-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-19,

    In Hamamatsu, South Korea beat France 20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21, Venezuela defeated Tunisia 25-23, 25-21, 25-22, and Brazil beat Italy 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 25-22.

    A total of 12 teams are competing in the round-robin competition and only the top three teams will win berths for the Athens Olympics.
