    Hired killer executed in Beijing
    ( 2003-11-24 11:11) (Xinhua)

An assassin was executed in Beijing on Friday after being convicted of the murder of the woman who hired him, over a monetary dispute after he failed to carry out the contract.

According to the Beijing First Intermediate People's Court, Li Changjiang was hired by a Beijing woman in 2000 to kill or disfigure her husband's mistress, for which he would be paid 100, 000 yuan (US$12,100).

After Li and his confederates Zhang Hongyu and Sun Yanhai, both friends of Li from his hometown in northeast China, failed to do their job, the hirer demanded her money back but was refused.

In September 2000, Li, Zhang and Sun killed the woman and burnt her car.
Li was executed, Sun was sentenced to life imprisonment, and Zhang is still at large.
