Iraqi city of Najaf hosts mass Shiite weddings
    ( 2003-11-28 14:18) (Agencies)

Mass weddings for 120 couples were held in this holy Shiite city as a form of assistance to sons and daughters of those killed by the regime of toppled president Saddam Hussein, officials said.

The committee of Shiite religious affairs said that during the ceremony, each newly wed couple received gifts including watches and clothes, and would also be given 400 dollars.

Another mass ceremony will be held in five months on the occasion of the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed, the committee said.
