Moonshine kills four in southwest China
    ( 2003-12-08 22:07) (Xinhua)

Four people died and 36 others are being treated in hospital after drinking an illicit brew made using industrial alcohol Monday in Yuanjiang Hani-Yi-Dai Autonomous County, Yuxi City, in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Fourteen of the drinkers are still in a critical condition.

The Yuxi government has allotted 100,000 yuan (US$12,050) to treat the victims.

The local police have closed the tavern which served the poisonous drink, and are looking for other consumers of it.
