    Beijing Xiaoqing Culture Art Co. charged with huge tax evasion

    A tax evasion prosecution of  Beijing Xiaoqing Culture Art Co., Ltd. and its general manager  Jing Jun opened in the People's Court of Chaoyang District in  Beijing Friday morning.

    The company is partly owned by famous Chinese female movie star Liu Xiaoqing.

    According to the charges, the company and Jing Jun was involved in 52 instances of tax evasion from 1996 to 2001. The amount of  unpaid tax allegedly added up to 8.48 million yuan (about 1.02  million US dollars).

    In court, the public prosecutor showed alleged evidence of the  crime. Jing Jun was represented by a lawyer.

    About 40 people, including the defendant's relatives and  members of the public, attended the court hearing.

    The court will have more investigations and debates before a  verdict is made in public.
