UK issues new Saudi terror alert
    ( 2003-12-29 09:31) (Agencies)

The UK government has issued a warning to travelers that a terrorist attack could be in the "final stages" of planning in Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Office on Sunday reiterated its advisory against traveling to the kingdom.

"We advise British nationals against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia," the Foreign Office says on its Web site.

"Following terrorist attacks in Riyadh in May and November, we continue to believe terrorists are planning further attacks in Saudi Arabia, and that these could be in the final stages of preparation."

The Foreign Office declined to give further details. A spokesman said that the new warning was "based on assessment of all the information available to us."

"There is a continuing high threat of terrorism in Saudi Arabia," the Web site states. "The threat includes, but is not limited to, residential compounds."
