The Chinese organizers of the 2008 Olympics have launched a worldwide search for people who can help them build state-of-the-art sports venues for the Beijing Games.

The State General Administration of Sports expects construction of 20 competition and 33 training venues, and renovation of six existing sites, to cost 3.8 billion yuan (US$460 million), the Xinhua News Agency reported Monday.

``We welcome all capable people, from home and abroad, to join us in contributing to a best-ever Olympic Games,'' Xinhua quoted Feng Jianzhong, assistant director of the administration, as saying.

Feng said Beijing was looking for a chief engineer to handle quality control and technical guidance, and dozens of experts in such fields as civil engineering and electrical engineering.

``The applicants for these jobs should have rich experience in related areas and profound expertise,'' Feng was quoted as saying.

China's sports administration is building a shooting range and a cycling velodrome, while the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games is to handle all other sites, the report said.

Organizers for the Beijing Games have promised to finish construction of the sports facilities at least a year early so that test events can be held in 2007.
